The ‘Queen of the Nurburgring’ died after battling cancer for more than three years.

Schmitz became linked to Germany’s Nurburgring Nordschleife, a 14-mile circuit and considered the toughest in the world.

A statement from the Nurburgring notes they “lost its most famous female racing driver.

Sabine Schmitz passed away far too early after a long illness.

We will miss her and her cheerful nature.

Rest in peace Sabine!”

“Rest in peace you wonderful, powerful, hilarious person,” herTop Gearco-host Chris Harris said.

Formula 1 also paid tribute to Schmitz, calling her a “pioneer” and “champion.”

“Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this sad time.”
