Each weekday, EW will post the answers from a different player.
Don’t take my word for it!
Listen to the first player to ever spend a night on Ghost Island,Jacob Derwin.

Michele Crowe/CBS
“There was a treasure chest on Ghost Island,” says Derwin.
(See, told ya!)
“By the shelter.

Robert Voets/CBS
It was locked, of course.
I spent most of that day tiring out the limited camera crew in search of a nonexistent key.
The one used to pop kick open the bamboo shoots at the game of chance was the wrong size.

I even mentioned it to Malolo when I got back, I was so befuddled.”
It didn’t mean anything.
JACOB DERWIN: I’m currently working as a caregiver and tutor for a family in Brooklyn.
Crashed on a lot ofSurvivoralumni couches!
Oh, and I met a woman named Beda at a coffee house in Harlem.
We’ve been together over a year now.
Regular fans ofUndercover Boss: Celebrity Editionmight recognize her!
What is your proudest moment ever from playingSurvivor?
Didn’t have a lot of time to make such memories, unfortunately.
And it was wild to be the first to experience a new twist.
What is your biggest regret from yourSurvivorexperience?
I should have flailed and screamed.
It got me to Ghost Island the first time, maybe it would have saved me again.
There’s a ton!
But I don’t think I’ve mentioned this one publicly before.

The one used to launch the bamboo shoots at the game of chance was the wrong size.
I even mentioned it to Malolo when I got back, I was so befuddled.
It didn’t mean anything.
Side note: I originally attempted to make a fake idol using that sweet key from the game.
Production needed it back, so I ended up with that stupid shell in the 11th hour.
Not quite as convincing.
How do you feel about the edit you got on the show?
It was a little worse than expected.
What was it like coming back to regular society after being out there?
Was there culture shock or an adjustment coming back?
I had a lot longer than most to readjust!
Spent some time in Queensland with the rest of the pre-jury reacclimatizing to society.
I had a lot of time to think about my life and what I wanted next.
For years, it felt like it was all leading up toSurvivor, and that didn’t go well.
It was time to move on and forward.
Whom do you still talk, text, or email with the most from your season?
Laurel and I are close.
I adore her an awfully big amount.
Even without having been cast on the show, I suspect we would have found each other eventually.
I keep up with Stephanie J. regularly too, as well as Kellyn and James when I can.
Nah, it’s a bad idea to watch nowadays.
And my therapist agrees!
Favorite season isChina, though.
Who’s one player from anotherSurvivorseason you wish you could have played with or against and why?
Simone from 35 very kindly mentioned me here!
I’ve really enjoyed becoming friends with her and her husband.
I suspect if we played together, our fates would have been pretty much the same though!
I would have loved to play with Lyrsa from 37.
We’ve hung out a little bit, and we get each other on an existential level.
I think we’d make a fun team.
If you could make one change to any aspect ofSurvivor, what would it be and why?
They’re working on it: the show needs a ton more representation.
They’re the longest running arc competition series on American television.
The cast and crew should reflect the population the show represents by now.
Finally, would you play again if asked?
It would have to be under very specific circumstances.
I’m not interested in being a primetime punchline for millions of people again.
