We go behind the scenes of Shudder’s Zoom call-terror tale with director Rob Savage.
Bored to death with all these identical Zoom calls?
Be careful for what you wish for.
If we can make people more unsafe in their own homes, all the better for it!"
The film has been warmly received by many horror fans and filmmakers.
“Its been incredible,” says Savage.
“Releasing on a genre-specific platform like Shudder, we didnt know what our audience would be.
We’ve been featured in all these places that we didnt think would pay attention to us.
It seems to have tapped into something that people are feeling and going through at the moment.
But its really blown up.
Its kind of amazing.”
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: What was the origin ofHost?
ROB SAVAGE: It started actually as a prank video I played on my friends.
Shudder totally got on board and we really just figured it out as we went along.
How did you get the cast and crew together?
There were a couple of times watching the movie when I definitely thought, How did they dothat?
Thats what we wanted.
We knew at the beginning people would have low expectations of what we could achieve.
And how did they do that in lockdown?"
How long did it take you to make?
It really was a super intense process.
Do you have sequel plans?
Its a spiritual sequel.
Its very much about whats going on right now, but it takes a totally different perspective.
Were really exited about it and were hoping to get going on that really soon.
So, well be able to see it a week from Tuesday?
[Laughs] Basically, yes.
The film was written by Savage, Gemma Hurley, and Jed Shepherd.
