NBC News boss denies that network tried to cover up Matt Lauer's conduct: 'Absolutely false'

Her identity and the details of her complaint had remained confidential until now.

This is shocking and appalling, and I honestly dont even know what to say about it.

And its just very painful for all of us at NBC who are at theTodayshow.

It is very, very, very difficult.

I want to take a moment to communicate with you about this.

First, and most importantly, in reading todays news our hearts go out to our former colleague.

Matt Lauers conduct in 2014 was appalling and reprehensible and of course we said so at the time.

He uses a variety of tactics to paint a fundamentally untrue picture.

Reluctantly, we allowed him to go ahead.
