Vreeland connected ALT toAndy Warholand he began writing for Warhol’sInterviewmagazine.
Under the stewardship of current editor in chiefAnna Wintour, Talley becameVogue’s creative director from 1988 to 1995.
He stayed on in that role until 2013, following a rather acrimonious split with Wintour andVogue.

He was magnificent and erudite and wickedly funny mercurial, too.
His first memoir,ALT, was published in 2003.
